Sculptor chosen to design the first statues of real women in Central Park

Meredith Bergmann, an acclaimed sculptor whose work has captured historical figures such as Presidents and First Ladies, has won the monumental task of putting real women on a pedestal for the first time in Central Park. Bergmann’s figures of suffragettes Susan B. Anthony and Elizabeth Cady Stanton will go up in 2020 on the Literary Walk on the Mall, an elm-shaded section of the Manhattan green oasis. “We’re breaking the bronze ceiling in Central Park,” said Pam Elam, president of The Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Susan B. Anthony Statue Fund and its Monumental Women Campaign. A small cast of the statue was unveiled Thursday at the New-York Historical Society, where the model will be on view. Read more…
